Youngster back for another season
Young forward JJ Pitchley is returning to Romford Raiders for the 2012/13 season.
Pitchley, 18, made an impression for Danny Marshall’s men in the early part of last term, but found his ice time limited as the team closed in on a league and trophy double.
Team boss Mick Cahill is happy to welcome the son of former Raiders defenceman Ben back to Rom Valley Way, though, and said: “This is a big campaign for JJ. I think everybody recognised it would be year of consolidation last season.
“Danny did give him some chances and, if anything, JJ maybe tried a bit too hard and sometimes ended up in the penalty box.
“Over-exuberance is a better fault that just going through the motions and nobody could ever accuse Pitch of that.
“We could all understand JJ’s frustration but he lasted the course and I honestly believe he’ll be better for the experience.
“Most young players have to wait patiently for their chance and I certainly remember Danny Marshall only getting an occasional shift for the Raiders in his early years.
“Nobody doubts JJ’s ability. He is brimming with talent and now needs to make his mark. I’m sure Danny will give him the opportunity.”
