Forward expected to link up with local club
Romford Raiders have decided to release Joe Allen from his agreement and the young forward is now expected to link up with Streatham Redskins.
The Rom Valley Way club announced Allen’s signing late last week, along with goalie Charlie Kaylor, but made a quick U-turn.
“It was Danny’s call and I am sure the right decision has been reached,” said team boss Mick Cahill.
“Joey didn’t ask to go but after having a chat with Marsh, it became clear the player would probably benefit from a move nearer to his South London home.
“We won’t stand in his way and we hope it all works out for him.
“Danny and I both have a lot of time for Joe. Forgetting his talent for a moment, he’s also a likeable guy and is as good as gold in the dressing room and on the bench.
“We know this is an important season for him and the truth is he’s likely to get a lot more ice time at Streatham, especially in the early weeks of the season, whereas we have an abundance of forwards competing for an active role.
“Joe also lives close to the rink at Brixton so it made sense for us to forget our disappointment, do the right thing and let the player go.
“Nobody likes to lose a player of Joe’s ability but we’re in good shape as far as offensive threat is concerned so we’ll take it on the chin. Joe leaves with our blessing and we wish him well at Streatham.”
