Coach pleased with derby display

Romford Raiders player-coach Danny Marshall paid tribute to his side after their derby win over Chelmsford at the weekend.

Marshall’s empty net goal - the 501st strike of his Raiders career - sealed a 6-3 success at Rom Valley Way as Raiders began the new year in style.

And Marshall was extremely pleased with the effort shown by the hosts.

He said: “It was a good result for us and I was pleased with everyone.

“They all did their jobs and David Oliver really stepped up. I had no doubts he would.

“It was a good game to start the year with. Chelmsford had a few powerplays. The referee gave us a lot of penalties so they had every chance to get back into it.

“But they didn’t take it and our guys killed the penalties off very well.

“It was a good close game, but we ended up beating them quite comfortably.”
