London Raiders coach Alan Blyth is hoping the addition of new import Jakub Kostelansky can help the club’s push for a National League play-off place.

The Lee Valley-based club have been playing with just one overseas player, Vaclav Drabek, since early November after Jakub Klima left alongside Danny Marshall, AJ Smith, Perry Richardson and Mike Brabon.

But they announced the signing of Kostelanksy, 21, ahead of their double-header with Klima’s Streatham Redskins, who visit tonight (Saturday, 5.30pm) and Blyth said: “It has been a long search looking for an import to fit in with what we are looking to build here and we are hopeful that we have found the right guy.

“We also have a home debut for Alan Lack and I am sure those who didn’t make last weekend’s games will be pleasantly surprised with this guy.”

Raiders drew with Bracknell last weekend, before losing out to Oxford, and Blyth wants to see his side perform better against Streatham.

He added: “This weekend will be a tough test for us against a very well organised and physical Streatham team.

“Warren Rost has done a good job in Streatham over the past couple of years and they are reaping its rewards now.

“Last time out against them we didn’t do ourselves justice and it is time to put it right.”
