Defenceman bolsters blue line ranks
Romford Raiders will welcome Ryan Giles back to Rom Valley Way for the 2012/13 National Ice Hockey League season.
Giles played some of his junior hockey at the club and appeared for the senior Raiders at the start of the 2009/10 English Premier League season under former coach Jesse Hammill.
He has spent the last two seasons playing for Invicta, but has been added to the Romford roster by player-coach Danny Marshall.
Team manager Mick Cahill said: “I’m very pleased to have Gilesy back in the team. He reluctantly left Rom Valley Way the last time after we’d released his travelling companion.
“As a result, Ryan’s driving and travel costs became a bit much but looking back, it was a shame we couldn’t work something out.
“He’s a versatile player. Although I know Invicta used him in a variety of roles last season, I suspect Marsh will want to use Gilesy’s blue line experience.
“He’s a very good defenceman indeed and will certainly add some quality to our D. He’s an intelligent guy who will be a good addition to the dressing room but, more importantly, on the ice he has great vision and uses the puck well.
“Ex-Romford junior and ex-EPL Raider makes it exactly the sort of signing I like. I think Danny has made a very smart hire by adding Ryan to the roster.”
