Leone lauds success over Invicta

Romford Raiders captain Anthony Leone was delighted to beat former club Invicta at the weekend.

Leone picked up a pair of assists in the 5-2 success over the Dynamos, having netted in a 6-2 win over MK Thunder the night before, as Raiders moved up to third place in the ENL Division One table.

They visit Essex rivals Chelmsford on Saturday and host Oxford at Rom Valley Way on Sunday (5.15pm).

And Leone wants his side, with only one defeat in 22 outings, to keep the winning habit.

”It was hard, but we stepped up a gear in the third period,” said Leone.

“We only really had two forward lines, after Tom Davis got hit from behind, but we must be the fitter side and hopefully things will keep going like that.

“We don’t want to say too much at this moment. We just want to go and beat Chelmsford, then we’ll have beaten all the top teams in their own rink this season.”

Raiders trail Chelmsford by a point, but are hoping to clinch the runners-up spot behind newly-crowned champions Isle of Wight to secure a better draw in the play-offs.

Leone added: “We’ve got experienced players on our team and good young players too.

“You need consistency to win the league and for a couple of games earlier this season we didn’t.

“But we want to stay on this roll all the way through until the end of the season.

“Our defence was solid all weekend and there’s still some silverware to be won. It doesn’t matter who we play really.”
