‘Early days’ says Marshall

Danny Marshall believes Romford Raiders can be contenders in the English National League this season.

The Rom Valley Way club have lost their last three games - against main rivals Isle of Wight, Chelmsford and Invicta - but player-coach Marshall has been encouraged by his team’s performances.

Raiders entertain Chelmsford tomorrow and visit Oxford on Sunday and Marshall is looking for a maximum four-point haul.

He said: “Chelmsford and Invicta are established teams in this league. We’ve had 10 games together so far.

“It takes time to gel, but they have all been close games, we’re not out of it.

“It’s anyone’s this year really. I expect a lot from my team and people expect a lot from us, but it’s still early days.”

Raiders signed Slovakian import Juraj Huska this week and hope he can make his debut against the Chieftains.

Marshall added: “We needed some more scoring depth to take the pressure off a few others.

“We’ll be fine. We’ll come together and get some confidence back again, there’s no panic button yet.

“We turned the Isle of Wight over in their own rink and I think we can turn any team over in their own rink.”

Steven Paris remains sidelined with a knee injury, but Marshall has a full squad at his disposal otherwise.
