Cahill: Our best-ever start

Romford Raiders boss Mick Cahill was able to reflect on another perfect weekend, following wins over MK Thunder and Streatham.

The defending league champions skated to a 5-2 success on Saturday, then made it a record nine victories in a row with a convincing 14-3 thrashing of the Redskins at Rom Valley Way.

And the four-point haul took Raiders to the top of the table, ahead of a blank weekend.

“It couldn’t have gone much better really,” said Cahill.

“Another four-point weekend taking us to the top of the league and making us 9-0 for the season, the best start we’ve ever had.

“Even in our debut year, the one point we dropped was in our eighth game, so this is unprecedented.

“If I’m honest, the games were the opposite of what I expected. I was confident we’d turn MK over, given they had import and netminder injuries, but we struggled on their big ice.

“I thought Streatham would be really difficult opponents.

“They started well but our pressure was pretty much relentless and it turned in to a bit of a drubbing.”
