After thrashing Bracknell Hornets on Saturday, Lee Valley outfit believe they can get maximum points this week

London Raiders defenceman David Oliver insists they can claim four points from their league encounters this weekend after delivering their best performance of the season last Saturday.

Alan Blyth’s men welcome MK Thunder to Lee Valley tomorrow (Saturday), before travelling to face Bracknell Hornets on Sunday.

They will go into those matches with confidence high after thrashing the Hornets 7-1 last week.

“This weekend is a big one for us in the league, we will have to be looking to take all four points,” said Oliver.

“We play MK on Saturday at the right time with their netminder Damiem King going to Invicta Dynamos. I felt last time out he kept them in the game.

“I believe we are playing them at the right time, but Bracknell away is different compared to our game with them last Saturday.

“They have just got their first win of the season so will have more confidence, but we have enough to shut them down and take the points home.”

Raiders captain Tom Davis echoed the optimism of his team-mate Oliver by backing his side to get maximum points.

He did admit, however, that both their upcoming opponents need to be respected.

“We have a tough weekend with MK getting the results at the minute and Bracknell also starting to find their feet,” said Davis.

“But I feel a four-point weekend for the Raiders could be on the cards. The key against MK is to break down their speed as they are a fast and hard working team.

“And with the Bracknell match we need to use our speed as it is such a big ice pad.”

Confidence is high for Blyth’s men after earning their first win since September 26 last weekend.

Netminder Michael Gray won man of the match for Raiders after saving 34 out of the 35 shots he faced in their 7-1 triumph.

Rio Grinell-Parke continued his good form with two goals, while Marek Nahlik also added a brace.

Michal Oravec, Mason Jon Webster and Liam Chong were also on target for Raiders.

Oliver added: “Last weekend was great for us with only one game, it was nice to walk away with the two points.

“I think Saturday was one of our best performances of the season. Although we were a goal down, we showed what we have got. It was the first time in a good few weeks we have had a full team.

“Everyone is starting to get up to their full game potential, which was seen in Saturday’s game and the big plus of the night was P-head (Gray) in the net. He is one of the best netminders in the league and you could see that.”

Raiders captain Davis was also full of praise for Gray after he played a starring role against the Hornets last weekend.

He added: “I think beating Bracknell was a big confidence booster for us. The team looked sharp in all aspects from the front to the back. Michael played a huge part and had his best game of the season so far.

“The forwards were fast and did the job of putting the puck in the net and the defence put everything on the line to stop chances being created. The team is really starting to gel.”
