Crow Lane side were beaten at home last weekend and remain 12th in the table

Romford & Gidea Park captain Steve Barfoot is confident ahead of this weekend’s trip to Ruislip in the London One North.

The Crow Lane outfit were beaten 36-5 by Letchworth Garden City on Saturday.

But they will go to The Club House with a positive attitude following a 43-24 success over Ruislip earlier in the campaign.

“They are a different team at home, but we will be confident after beating them,” said Barfoot.

“I think teams travel differently so they could be stronger at home, but we will go there positive this weekend.

“We had a good training session on Tuesday night so confidence in the camp is good and we believe we can get a result.”

Grant Henwood’s team started poorly against Letchworth last weekend and were never able to recover as they conceded three tries inside the opening 15 minutes to trail 17-0.

Darren Cooper responded with a try five minutes before the break to give Park a boost.

But the visitors ran in another soon after the restart, before adding two more late on to seal an emphatic victory.

Barfoot felt the scoreline didn’t reflect their performance, though.

He praised their efforts and admitted they failed to make the most of their opportunities.

“Letchworth were a very good team and they were the better side,” admitted Barfoot.

“But it was a better performance from us than the scoreline suggests. It doesn’t reflect the territory that we had in the match.

“Letchworth started well, but we got back into the game, we just couldn’t finish our chances.

“We got the try just before the break and it gave us some hope. But again they got another and they were just more clinical.”

Barfoot is positive about the new year, though, and believes Park are starting to gel as a team.

Henwood’s side have only registered three victories this campaign, but they are showing signs of improvement.

“We just couldn’t get the ball over the line against Letchworth and it has been a problem all season,” added Barfoot.

“The positives are that we are creating chances and we are starting to gel as a team.

“We have a young side, the average age is probably 23.

“We had a lot of injuries at the start of the season to senior players, but we are rebuilding now and moving in the right direction.”
