Watt leaves champions for Lakeside
Lakeside Hammers began their team building for 2012 by signing Australian international Davey Watt from Elite League champions Poole this week.
Watt, who helped the Pirates to the title this year, has been a regular guest for Hammers in recent times and will fill a heat leader role at Purfleet.
And, following Peter Ljung’s departure to concentrate on his Grand Prix commitments, the signing of Watt has given promoters Stuart Douglas and Jon Cook a notable boost.
Cook said: “Davey’s signature is a great start to our team plans and I know he is a very popular rider with our fans and a great character to have in the team.
“Davey’s a great signing for us and the fact we were his preferred choice once his place at Poole was in question is very gratifying.”
Hammers team manager Neil Vatcher added: “I can’t wait to work with Davey and having met up with him a few times over the last few weeks I know he is very much looking forward to becoming a Hammer.”
Speaking from Australia, a delighted Watt said: “I’m pleased to be joining the Hammers. I like the track, the fans always seem to get behind the team and I am really impressed with what Stuart (Douglas) and Jon (Cook) have achieved.
“I hope that I can help them to achieve their ultimate goal of winning the Elite League title.”
