Beaten 6-1 by the Phantoms at Romford’s Sapphire Ice & Leisure Centre a week earlier, Raiders produced a battling display in the return meeting to earn some reward in their fight for fourth place.

They jumped back above Bracknell, who were beaten in Swindon, and travel to face the Bees in a crunch fixture on Sunday.

Raiders were without forwards Alan Lack and Ollie Baldock and back-up goalie Zach Grandy-Smith, but took a third-minute through Olegs Lascenko.

The home side hit back with a shorthanded goal from former Romford junior Glenn Billing before the break to level, but Raiders regained the lead in the 27th minute as Lascenko set up Juraj Huska to score.

Tom Norton levelled a minute into the final period with a power play effort, but Huska’s second goal of the night, on a 2-on-1 break with Lascenko, gave Raiders their third lead of the match.

Phantoms squared matters once again through James Ferrara with eight minutes remaining, though, and Raiders saw JJ Pitchley called for a holding penalty just before the final buzzer.

That left them shorthanded at the start of overtime, but they killed off the penalty and looked to be heading for a penalty shoot-out when Leigh Jamieson netted Peterborough’s winner with just 23 seconds left on the clock.

Michael Gray was named man of the match for Raiders after an excellent display in goal and they will be hoping for more success on the road in Berkshire.

Phantoms: Leigh Jamieson 1+1, Tom Norton 1, James Ferrara 1, Glenn Billing 1, Ales Padelek* 0+2, Darius Pliskauskas* 0+1, Scott Robson 0+1, Robert Ferrara 0+1.

Raiders: Juraj Huska* 2+1, Olegs Lascenko 1+2, John Connolly 0+1, JJ Pitchley 0+1.
