Win in Wales followed by home loss

Romford Raiders experienced mixed fortunes in the English National League this weekend.

Captain Anthony Leone fired a hat-trick as Raiders came from behind three times to win 7-5 in Cardiff.

James Murnane’s first Raiders goal cancelled out Cardiff’s first lead, with Leone answered back in the second period.

Raiders trailed 3-2 going into the final period, but Pierre Wilhelmsson squared matters once again, before Leone, Marshall and AJ Smith put the visitors 6-3 up with four minutes left.

Cardiff hit back to cut the gap to one, before Leone’s hat-trick goal, six seconds from time, completed the scoring.

Sunday’s Rom Valley Way clash with the Isle of Wight remained scoreless until the 48th minute, when Dominic Hopkins put the visitors ahead on a powerplay.

Alex Murray doubled their lead with Romford defenceman Tyrone Miller - making his first appearance of the season - serving his third penalty of the night.

And, although Murnane hit back at 55:09 with his second goal of the weekend, Richard Facey sealed a 3-1 victory for the islanders.
