Manor claim Essex Met League spoils

Marshalls Purple came up short against defending Essex Met League champions Manor in their latest outing at Redbridge Sports Centre.

Missing a key defender, Marshalls worked hard to keep in touch in the first quarter, which ended with Manor 16-14 up.

And shooters Steffi Burt and Alice Ewer combined to good effect to turn things around and give them a 27-25 lead at half time.

Coaches player of the match Shauna Butterworth, Stacey Wade and Sarah Braiden worked hard in a tense third quarter, which ended with the sides level at 42-42.

But despite good work from Jodie Pearce and player of the match Jo Cook, Marshalls could not deny Manor a 60-54 win.

Marshalls Yellow lost 39-34 to Langdon in Division Two, after a slow start saw them trailing by three goals at the first break.

Amy Woods worked hard with Ellie Noble and Liz Hegarty to keep them in touch in the second quarter, with Alice Grimwood converting chances to keep the gap at three heading into the final session.

Carolyn Kazali and player of the match Kirsty Herbert worked hard to keep Langdon’s shooters at bay, but Marshalls could not avoid defeat.

Marshalls Red fell to a heavy 61-30 loss against local rivals Romford B, after being held to just five goals in the first quarter as their rivals found the net with ease.

Player of the match Noble, Carlie Griggs, Scarlett Jacks and Woods worked tirelessly in mid-court, but Julie Wright and coaches player Katie Weaver could not stem the flow of Romford goals.

Marshalls White were conceded their game by QM Old Girls, while Marshalls Black claimed a fine win over Cumberland.

Having lost by 13 when the sides met earlier in the season, Marshalls started in determined mood as Ed Butterworth and Becky Higginson scored freely to build a 9-6 lead.

The gap was down to two at half time after a tight second quarter, but mid-court trio Kirsty Hogben, Becky Stamp and Usha Ahmed made a string of interceptions as Marshalls moved 28-18 up.

Defensive duo Tamara Parkes and Charlotte Higginson restricted the Cumberland shooters to just four goals in the third quarter and set up a 35-29 victory.

Becky Higginson took the player of the match award, as Stamp and Ahmed shared the coaches prize.

Marshalls Gold found opponents Woodford too strong, but gave a good account of themselves in defeat.

Ahmed and Jennifer Comrie linked up in defence, but Stamp and Hannah Gillings found it hard to break down the opposition at the other end of the court.

Scarlett Hollick combined well with Stamp, as Florence Parkinson, Georgia Thorpe-Chamberlain and Erika Whelan Smythe put pressure on Woodford’s mid-court players in a 56-14 loss.

Gillings and Hollick shared the player of the match award, while Thorpe Chamberlain took the coaches vote.

Marshalls Pink lost to Woodford seconds in the first game of the day, after struggling to get the ball down court early on.

Erin Hancock, Charlotte Grundy and Mai Afolabi eventually began to find their rhythm in mid-court to feed passes to coaches player of the match Stamp and Niamh Moloney, who duly obliged by netting their shots.

But the Woodford shooters made life difficult for Amelia Owers and player of the match Ellie Luxton at the other end, taking their chances with regularity to earn a 38-23 victory.
