Player-coach pays tribute
Romford Raiders player-coach Danny Marshall was happy to see his side hold off a brave Oxford Stars outfit for their 5-1 win at the weekend.
Juraj Huska’s hat-trick helped Raiders bank the points at Rom Valley Way, but the hosts rode their luck at times, with Oxford hitting the metalwork three times.
Marshall said: “Credit to Oxford, they’re a good little side. [Ken] Forshee runs a tight system and hopefully they will push some teams hard.
“Not playing Saturday, it took us 10 minutes to get going. I knew we’d win, but you can’t expect that, otherwise you could end up struggling.”
The match remained in the balance until the 50th minute, when JJ McGrath’s fine solo effort gave Raiders a three-goal cushion.
Marshall added: “It was nice to see JJ put the puck in the net. It was a 2-0 game at the time and it could’ve been a tight finish if they had scored the next one, but we prevailed.”
