Swimmer returns to GB para squad
Hornchurch’s Amy Marren has been named in the Great Britain para swimming squad for the European Championships later this year.
Now 17 years old, Newham-born Marren was a four-time world champion in Montreal in 2013, as well as winning two gold and five silver medals at the 2014 Euros in Holland.
And the Romford Town member and former Hall Mead pupil returns to international action after a difficult 2015 campaign hit by illness, hoping to take a step towards appearing at the 2016 Paralympic Games, having competed at London in 2012 at the age of 13.
National performance director Chris Furber said: “This is an exciting team of youth and experience.
“More opportunities to race against international competitors is important as we move closer to the Paralympic Games.
“Having five athletes making their senior international debut is great and it’s going to be good to see them taking the step up to a new level.
“I know our more experienced athletes will be on hand whenever they need advice.”
