London Raiders will begin the new ice hockey season with a trip to fierce rivals Invicta Dynamos.

The two sides will meet in Gillingham in a cup fixture on Sunday, September 18, with Raiders looking to improve on their record from last year’s meetings, when they lost seven and drew one of eight matches.

And it means an early return to his former club for Jacob Ranson, who rejoined Raiders this summer after a season with the Dynamos, where he was named the Suppoters’ Player of the Year.

He said: “I had a hunch that one might pop-up first!

“It;s going to be a weird one starting the season at the place that was my home rink last season, as I enjoyed my time there and the fans were great.

“But I’m looking forward to going back there and getting off to a good start to the campaign with the gold and blue.

“I think we’ve got a great group of guys signed so far and with this squad, plus a couple more, we could surprise a few teams.”

Raiders take to the Lee Valley ice for the first time for a league match against Oxford six days later.

Alan Blyth’s men face an early trip to the Isle of Wight on Saturday, October 1 for another cup match, and entertain defending champions Chelmsford for the first time two weeks later.

A home meeting with the Isle of Wight is sure to provide some fireworks on Sunday, November 6 and Raiders face a home-and-away double-header with Streatham at the end of that month.

They end 2016 with another trip to Invicta for a league match on December 18, before a two-week festive break, and return to action in 2017 with a double-header against Solent Devils on the weekend of January 7-8.

Raiders end the regular season with a trip to Chelmsford on March 19, with the play-offs set to take place on the weekends of April 1-2, 8-9 and 15-16.
