Raiders back on ice after break

Romford Raiders captain Anthony Leone admitted it was good to get back on the ice last night after the festive break.

After seeing their ENL Division One clashes against Cardiff and Invicta postponed due to heavy snowfall, Raiders had a few days off over the Christmas weekend.

But they had a light session at Rom Valley Way to blow away the cob-webs ahead of Sunday’s eagerly-anticipated Essex derby with Chelmsford.

And Leone said: “It’s always hard the first couple of training sessions back, especially when you put as much weight on as me!

“Everyone enjoyed it. We didn’t do anything too hard as it was the first session back, but Thursday will be more serious definitely.”

Raiders are looking to square their head-to-head series with the Chieftains, having lost 1-0 in Chelmsford and drawn 3-3 in the last meeting at Rom Valley Way.

Leone added: “It’s going to be a good game, definitely.

“We’ve got a lot of good attacking forwards and I think their coach [Dean Birrell] is on holiday, so that might help us too.”
