Captain pleased with four-point haul

Romford Raiders captain Anthony Leone was delighted with his side’s four-point weekend in the English National League.

After a 5-2 win on the Isle of Wight, Raiders skated to a 6-2 success over Cardiff at Rom Valley Way to give their campaign a huge lift.

Leone was unavailable for the Isle of Wight game, but said: “I was in contact the whole time. I thought we might struggle there, but we worked hard in practice all week and did a good job.

“A lot of people were doubting us, saying we’d only won easy games, but this weekend shows we can be one of the better teams in this league.

“Everyone’s buzzing now but we’ve got some seriously hard games coming up.”

Leone opened the scoring against Cardiff, after some good work from Joe Allen, and said: “Joe’s doing well. We’re starting to mould well now.

“Al (Visockas) is coming along too. He’s a real grafter, but I should’ve had a couple more goals.”

Raiders face a return to Cardiff on Saturday, before the Isle of Wight visit, and Leone is hoping for another productive weekend.

“We’re going for four points again. If we can get that this weekend, we’ll be right up there [in the table], with games in hand still,” he said.

“We’ll gelling well and getting on fine. We’re confident. I know I always am.”
