Broxhill Road club full of praise for opponents after winning by five wickets on Saturday to remain third in the standings

Havering-atte-Bower continued their impressive run of results in the Mid-Essex League Division Three on Saturday with another win to keep them third.

James Walker’s side chased down 200 against Old Chelmsfordians seconds to ensure they remained unbeaten in the month of June.

Havering won three matches and the other fixture during the month was abandoned. Next up for the Broxhill Road club is a trip to Woodham Mortimer.

Walker’s men will aim to close the gap between themselves and leaders Chadwell Heath tomorrow (Saturday), having kept their cool, despite overcast conditions and thunder, to make it back-to-back victories last weekend.

They won the toss and made the decision to bowl first, and Michael Roe reduced the hosts to 39-2 after picking up two scalps.

Both teams were forced off due to the rain soon after and the clash was reduced to 41 overs per side.

When Havering returned the captain impressed and took 3-38 from his 10 overs, but it was Brad Tollon who stole the show.

He finished with 3-34 off eight overs, while Tom Hine (1-23) helped restrict Chelmsfordians to 200-8.

Ryan Hurley (32) and James Hurley (30) played key roles in the chase, while opener Peter Edge shone once again.

Edge compiled 59, before James Lavender finished it off with a rapid 26 not out to the delight of the Havering skipper.

“James has really come into his own in the number five/six role as a finisher,” said Walker.

“He saw the side home and it has been fantastic to have so many players back from their off season last year. Those players are stepping up and taking a leading role in the team.”

The Havering captain was also full of praise for their visitors last weekend, adding: “Huge thanks must go to the opposition.

“Despite it being a close game, with us coming out victorious, they decided to play on through the rain, thunder and lightning.

“It was an absolute pleasure to play against this team as all their players played in the right spirit and with respect.”
