Raiders get busy

Today

ENL Division 1: Isle of Wight v Romford RAIDERS (6pm)

ROMFORD fell to an 8-3 defeat on the postage-stamp rink in Ryde on their last visit in March 2009.

But player-coach Danny Marshall and back-up goalie Glen Jackson are the only Romford survivors from that EPL clash, where Jan Krajicek, Mark Stewart and Scott McKenzie were on target for the visitors.

Marshall has enjoyed some success on the island down the years, with Romford winning on both visits in 2006/7 and needs his side to produce a good display on the road to silence some of the early-season doubters. Prediction: Raiders win!

Sunday

ENL Division 1: RAIDERS v Cardiff

BEATEN 6-3 in Wales last month, Raiders will be desperate for revenge in this early return meeting on home ice.

Devils goalie Mike Brabon used to call Rom Valley Way ‘home’ a few seasons back, while Canadian defenceman Brent Pope was briefly Raiders player-coach and Lee Cowmeadow was something of a fans favourite.

However, Cardiff have been known to travel light in recent times, so it remains to be seen who makes it down the M4. Prediction: Woe for Welsh.

ENL Division 2: Cardiff v Romford FURY

FURY have made a steady start to the new campaign, with two home wins and a draw from five games played to date.

Cardiff have only one win to their name, from their first four outings, but that was a 5-3 home success over Lee Valley two weeks ago. Prediction: Close, but no cigar for Fury.
