Former Sanders School student Ollie Muldoon reveals it is extra special to be going off to play at Wembley Stadium with his local club.

The 26-year-old midfielder, who has grown up in Hornchurch while playing for Charlton Athletic, has played a big part in the Urchins terrific FA Trophy run after joining the club back in October 2020 just prior to their Isthmian League season being made null and void due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The former Gillingham and Maidstone United player has played nine times for Hornchurch since joining – with seven of those appearances coming in the Trophy where he has also found the net once in their 4-1 victory over Wingate & Finchley early in the competition.

“Most definitely, to be able to say I’ve got to Wembley with my local team is very special,” Muldoon admitted.

"It’s been very fun to be fair. It is a shame that the league season couldn’t continue because I do feel with the group of lads we have here we could have gone on to create some special memories in the league too.”

Muldoon, much like all the Hornchurch players, know it’s a dream come true and can’t wait to walk out at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, May 22 against Hereford in the final in front of the BT Sport cameras.

“Ah, without doubt. Playing at Wembley is every kids dream growing up. Every kid out there will always watch games at Wembley because it’s always a special occasion when teams play there," he added.

“The boys and I can’t wait.”

Much like previous players have stated throughout this Trophy run, Muldoon believes the team spirit and togetherness has played a huge part in getting the club this far, and beating huge clubs like Notts County along the way.

“The group of boys we have down at Hornchurch are top class. It’s definitely up there with one of the best if not the best changing room that I’ve been in," he said.

“We all have a laugh and joke but when it’s game day everyone is on it and putting a shift in for his mate next to him and you can see that by how far we’ve come in this competition and the way we have played to get here.”
