Upminster 1st XI at Ipswich

Upminster edged out in thriller

Upminster came up short in a nine-goal East League thriller at Ipswich.

Trailing 2-0 at half-time, Nick Payne’s men hit back with a deflected finish from Harry Trusler, who then scooped home a short corner to level.

Upminster had chances to take the lead, but fell 4-2 behind before debutant Ollie Cipa’s reverse-stick strike.

Ipswich converted from a short corner to restore the two-goal cushion and Russ Murphy’s late reply was too little, too late.

Unbeaten Havering moved up to third in Premier A with a 4-2 home win over Bishop’s Stortford at Campion.

And Romford took the derby spoils against Upminster 3rds, with man of the match Stuart Boyling’s hat-trick leading them to a 5-1 victory.

Alfie Hibbard and Tom Edwards, with a penalty flick, completed Romford’s nap hand.
