Men begin East League campaigns

East Premier A

Havering v Cambridge City (12.30pm)

Captain Paul Johnson has had a few headaches in the build-up to the new season.

Murray Yeoman, Alex Defroand and Nick Lampkin have all left the club, for differing reasons, while Joe Wright has broken an arm.

Harry Andrews is back at Havering, though, after finishing his studies and Johnson’s men have a home fixture to start with at Campion.

Division 1

Cambridge City II v Upminster (2pm)

Nick Payne’s Upminster head up the M11 to Perse Girls School for their opening fixture of 2011/12.

They lost four of their first five matches last season, but celebrated a 2-1 win over City on November 6.

That came early in an eight-match unbeaten run through the middle part of the season, before promotion hopes faded in a disappointing finish.

Division 4SE

Brentwood III v Romford (2pm)

Romford begin their league campaign with one of several derbies at Brentwood School.

They lost the corresponding fixture 4-1 last season as part of a run that saw only four wins in 14 matches.

But Romford then won five of their last eight in a strong finish.

Tom Edwards and Alfie Hibbard netted in a 5-2 friendly defeat against Old Southendian last weekend and will be expected to lead the line again.
