A round-up of the latest matches involving Havering teams
A goal in each half was enough to secure Havering women’s first a 2-0 win at Southend & Benfleet in East Two South East.
Havering began strongly, Emily Gilkes-Tarsey and Emily Martin both going close, and kept up the pressure for much of the first half.
The break through came when Charlotte Chamberlin took a long corner quickly, drove into the attacking circle and hit a fierce strike.
The Southend keeper did well to keep out the shot, but could only knock the ball to Gilkes-Tarsey, who placed it well to put Havering ahead.
Gilkes-Tarsey thought she had grabbed a second, only to hear the whistle go for a penalty corner just as the ball crossed the line.
Havering came out strongly in the second half, putting Southend and Benfleet under immediate pressure.
Several penalty corner chances were saved, but another brought the second goal for the visitors.
Isherwood’s initial strike was saved, but Harwood pounced on the rebound and popped the ball past the keeper.
Southend tried to get something from the game, but Havering held firm to secure a win that moved them up to fifth in the table.
Havering are without a game this weekend, but return to action on February 24 when they host Waltham Forest.
The men’s firsts, meanwhile, suffered a 2-1 loss at home to Cambridge City in East Premier B.
Havering men’s firsts are on the road this Saturday as they make the trip to Norfolk to face Norwich City.
A weakened Havering men’s second team fought hard to earn a 2-2 draw against a strong Wapping sevenths.
Havering took the lead against the run of play when Liam Keeling robbed a Wapping defender of possession, before rounding the keeper and finishing clinically.
Wapping, though, soon took control of the match, scoring twice to take a deserved lead.
The hosts, however, levelled just before half time when the Wapping defence could only block James Diggins’ strike and Mike Caruana-Smith put away the rebound.
The men’s thirds, meanwhile, played out a goalless draw on their trip to Chelmsford sixths.
Richard Cast came closest to scoring, having an effort cleared off the line.
The upcming weekend looks set to be another busy for all of Havering’s men’s and women’s teams.
