Borough teams head to Crystal Palace finals weekend

Havering youngsters will bid for medals at the London Youth Games summer finals at Crystal Palace this weekend.

Borough teams will compete in a range of events, with the boys’ hockey squad up against Redbridge, Richmond and Southwark in their group on Sunday.

Havering are also into the last eight of the team badminton event, where they will battle it out with Bexley, Bromley, Croydon, Harrow, Kingston, Redbridge and defending champions Sutton, after winning silver last year.

And they will field netball teams in under-14 and under-19 competitions that take place on the two days.

Saturday’s line-up also sees archery, boys’ football and swimming events take place, while the Sunday action focuses on athletics, diving, indoor rowing, triathlon, aquathlon and weightlifting.

Several Youth Games alumni will be in attendance over the weekend, including athletes Jeanette Kwakye and Montell Douglas, women’s rugby World Cup winner Maggie Alphonsi, former England netball captain Amanda Newton, London 2012 hockey bronze medalist Hannah Macleod, Jo Calvino, Blake Aldridge and Chemmy Alcott.

Havering are currently fifth in the Jubilee Trophy table on 770 points, 128 behind leaders Wandsworth.
