Five heading off to Canada
Five Havering schoolboys were celebrating this week after being picked for the England Under-13 ice hockey squad.
The former Romford juniors are now with other clubs following the closure of the Rom Valley Way rink – which is in the process of being demolished – and will head to Quebec for the World Pee-Wee Championships in the new year.
Royal Liberty trio Brad Windebank, Daniel Hitchings and Ewan Hill were named for the trip, with goalie Windebank having helped the national side reach the quarter-finals last season with a 93.8 per cent save average.
Hitchings is currently sidelined with a broken foot, but will be joined in the party by Guildford team-mate Tommy Huggett, a pupil at Rainham’s Chafford School, an d Danny Jackson, who attends Marshalls Park School.
