WEST HAM advanced to the fourth round of the Carling Cup after they dumped out Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last night (Tuesday).
The Hammers, who are bottom of the Premier League with one point from their first five games, booked their place in the fourth round of the League Cup with a 2-1 win over the Black Cats.
The visitors gained the ascendency when Frederic Piquionne broke the deadlock with his first goal in claret and blue, before Asamoah Gyan levelled just before half-time.
On the hour Victor Obinna also got off the mark for West Ham with a fine finish to give the Hammers their first away victory since August 15, 2009.
