Captain Cook knows it’s still all to play for in Division Two

Ardleigh Green travel to Harlow Town this weekend still in search of that elusive first win, but captain Chris Cook believes success this weekend will drag the hosts back into a relegation fight, writes Ned Keating.

After 10 games, Green find themselves bottom of Essex League Division Two with Town two places and 58 points above them in the standings.

The earlier timed match between the two clubs ended in a draw at Central Park, but Cook is confident his team can go one better this weekend as they look to kick-start their season.

“We know what to expect there having played them in the cup last season,” said Cook.

“It was miserable and wet that day so it will be nice to play at their ground in the sun!

“Down at the bottom it’s between us, Stanford and Harlow Town to go down. A win this weekend would be huge and hopefully we can kick on from it.

“But we have to start building partnerships. Our bowling is more than fine, but it would be nice to get a good total on the board and go from there.”

Green went down by 73 runs against Belhus last weekend, after being set 229 to win.

Dave Rai fell four runs short of a half-century for Cook’s men.
