More medals for Havering youngsters
Daniel Gorsuch won individual gold and helped Havering claim a team bronze in the London Youth Games diving finals at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Coopers pupil Gorsuch, 15, came out on top in the senior male competition and said: “I’m really pleased to get the gold. Last year I got second, so I tried my hardest to get gold this time around. I have built up my tariff so I had harder dives this year which saw me through.
“I train three times a week but with my GCSEs I haven’t been training as much. I enjoy the London Youth Games as you get to go round other sports that I wouldn’t normally see. Today I have seen the judo and trampolining.”
Team Manager Beth Ackroyd added: “I am very proud and it is a surpsrise. They have been diving well, but it is a tough competition and I am over the moon really.
“We have a trial competition and then the winners came here and have done us proud – they have pulled it out of the bag.
“They love the London Youth Games. It is one of those comps where everyone gets involved of all different abilities and it always feels like a team effort. It is probably one of the closest things at that age that they will get to an Olympics experience. They get the feel of a community and I am so pleased of them.”
Havering also landed a team bronze in the trampolining competition and will hope for further success when a host of other events are held next weekend (June 30).
