Youngsters add more medals to collection

Romford’s Ford Judo Club had more to celebrate at a pair of competitions at the weekend.

Two young fighters were in action at the British National event in Sheffield on Saturday, with William Cross making his debut on the big stage.

Cross showed no sign of nerves as he took to the mat and won two of his four fights, while clubmate Mitchell Kennedy beat the number one seed on his way to finishing seventh overall.

A group of 10 younger judoka went to the Classmasters event at Tonbridge on Sunday, with every single member coming away with a medal.

Toby Worrell, Anaikh Sandhu, Charlie Higgs, Michael Bukatchuk and Hannah Farrell all won gold, while Nihaal Sandhu, Olliver O’Kane and Jessie O’Kane took silvers.

Emily Farrell and Aron Baratosi completed the haul with bronze medals and coach Michael Allen said: “It was a fantastic achievement from all those who fought. They all gave it everything they had and I’m immensely proud of them all.”
