Adrian will return between the sticks for West Ham United this Sunday when Premier League champions Manchester City visit the London Stadium.

With Joe Hart, who is on loan from Pep Guardiola’s men, ineligible to play against his parent club, his Spanish rival will have a chance to impress.

It mirrors a similar situation in the reverse fixture against the Sky Blues at the Etihad in December when Adrian came in for his first appearance of the term after Hart had started the season as number one.

The former Real Betis custodian impressed against City, despite the east Londoners losing 2-1, and went on to usurp Hart as the starting stopper for the Hammers.

However, after conceding eight goals across two games in February and March, Adrian lost his place in the starting XI, with the England international returning.

Despite making a costly error against Stoke City recently, Hart by and large has impressed for David Moyes’ men since returning between the posts.

The England stopper’s form has relegated Adrian back to the bench, and with the 31-year-old having been linked with a move back to his native Spain this term, Sunday could be his last appearance for West Ham.

Adrian will hope he can play his part for the Hammers this weekend as they look for something out of what appears a difficult game on paper.

Even a draw against Guardiola’s all-conquering City would be a great result for Moyes’ men as they look to keep their distance from the Premier League’s bottom three.

With just four games to go this term, the east Londoners still have their fate in their own hands. And their manager is keen for it to remain that way between now and the end of the campaign.

“We’re capable of winning games between now and the end of the season so I’m hoping that we’ll not be relying on anybody else,” said Moyes, after Sunday’s 4-1 defeat at Arsenal.

“If I was in Stoke’s position I would be thinking it might be difficult to get to the points tally where we are at the moment.

“Because it’s possible and they can still do it, we have to make sure we pick up our points and win the games.”

While it will be hard against City, Moyes will hope West Ham can collect something to keep their lead over the drop zone.
