Adrian 8* (West Ham man of the match)

No chance with the two goals, but made some fine saves as Chelsea put on the pressure. One by his near post in the first half was outstanding.

Michail Antonio 5

Made a couple of good runs, but the way he gave away the penalty for the first goal, dribbling out from inside his own area and then reacted after being subbed was petulant to say the least.

Arthur Masuaku 7

Not a bad debut. Looks pacy and likes to get forward, though had a tough baptism in defence at times as Chelsea packed that right hand side.

Winston Reid 6

Not his greatest day. Struggled to cope with Chelsea attack and conceded too many free-kicks.

James Collins 7

Good to see him back and he struck a great goal as well as making some good blocks. But he was booked and stood too far off Costa for the winner.

Cheikhou Kouyate 5

Simply didn’t get involved enough in the game. Ran a lot, but there was no end product. Needed to get stuck in against the Chelsea midfield a lot more.

Havard Nordtveit 6

Started well looking clean and tidy in midfield, but faded badly and gave the ball away too often, before being replaced.

Mark Noble 6

Sam Allardyce would not have been too impressed watching in the stands. The captain looked off the pace and never had the time he needed on the ball.

Enner Valencia 7

Worked as hard as anyone and caused problems, but things did not quite go his way. Worth persisting with in that role, while others are injured.

Andre Ayew 5

A debut to forget. Looked uncertain on the flank and could not connect with Andy Carroll up front then a thigh injury ended his night early, and he left the field very upset.

Andy Carroll 7

Had a tough task against Terry and Cahill, but won some headers and never gave up the ghost. Let down by a lack of service and will look for better in games to come.

Substitutes:

Gokhan Tore (for Ayew, 35) 6

Didn’t look fit and struggled because of it. Crowded out by Chelsea players too often and lost the ball, though he did get in one excellent cross.

Sam Byram (for Antonio, 52) 6

Should have come on earlier, but when he did he had a decent game at right back.

Dimitri Payet (for Nordtveit, 67) 7

Showed his class from the moment he came on. Scared the Chelsea defence and it was his corner that led to the West Ham equaliser.
