West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini admits he needs time to work his best team out but is backing himself to help the club push on.

The 65-year-old former Manchester City boss also believes you never truly have your best starting eleven as there will always be constant changes throughout the season and that you have to build a squad.

But the Chilean also revealed he knows in modern football managers are not given too much time to bring success to their club.

“It is very difficult to say how long it will be. Also, when I said that a new team, with new manager and new players need time, it is because it is true,” Pellegrini said.

“But I also say that football does not give you too much time. You must try to improve and to win but I trust my experiences that I have had before.

“I know the other teams that I had that I always produced that quality in the end, and I am going to do that here as well.”

The boss admits he is not sure of the best eleven yet and will continue working with his squad to find it but he is not worried at all yet about being unsure.

“I don’t know if it is closer or not because we need time for a lot of reasons. If you review my career, at Villarreal, at Malaga, in Manchester, the first games that I managed were never good games. I remember in Manchester we lost our first three games away or lost two and won one.

”I’m not worried about that but as soon as we can win it would be better.

“You never have a starting eleven. It is difficult because you have to play so many games and you must change it. You must involve the whole squad any chose the best moment for each game.

“But after that game you will have another problem and can’t play that team again.”

Pellegrini also spoke about new signing Issa Diop and the reasons why he hasn’t been given any pitch time in their opening two fixtures and whether he could play against Arsenal.

“We will see, not only Diop but Cresswell who was part of the pre-season injuries. At this moment all of the players are fit except for the three that we mentioned.”

He also went on to defend players Michail Antonio and Declan Rice who weren’t in the squad last Saturday during their 1-2 defeat to AFC Bournemouth.

“There are a lot of reasons why players are dropped, just as with other players. We have players in the squad who are not fit, I didn’t think both of them played bad against Liverpool and that is why they were out of the team.

“Maybe against Arsenal I will make changes because I think a player played bad but there are a lot of reasons why we are trying to find in this moment the best eleven to win it.

“All the teams in the Premier League have money to put into good players. “

Maybe West Ham have invested a little bit more than they normally do every season to improve the squad, but there are a lot of teams that have invested a lot more money that West Ham. But it is not the reason why you are going to win games.”
