West Ham United Women’s team go into Sunday’s London derby clash with mighty Chelsea on the back of an excellent 2-1 win at Everton last weekend.

And managing director Jack Sullivan is delighted with the way things have gone for his team in the last couple of weeks.

“We grabbed a vital win at Everton on Sunday and I have to say it was much needed and really deserved.

“For the third match running we went behind early in the game.

“It is certainly something we have to look at because it is happening too often and it means that we are always playing catch-up and in the Super League that can be difficult.

“We did manage it against Everton, though, with two really good goals.

“Jane Ross got off the mark for us with a similar goal to Balbuena’s for the men on Saturday. She headed against the crossbar and then put in the rebound.

“The winner was a great strike from the edge of the box from Alisha Lehmann.

“Jane also missed a penalty while Brianna Visalli hit the bar, but they did have a goal disallowed.

“It was certainly a vital win after the last couple of defeats. I don’t think we have moved up the table, but we have taken closer orders.

“This Sunday we take on Chelsea and we are hoping for a good crowd to come along.

“We did everything we could to promote the last home game with Liverpool and got an amazing crowd of nearly 2,000.

“We will see how many of those people come back again on Sunday for what should be a really good game.

“A lot of our players used to play for Chelsea, so one or two will certainly have a point to prove, but we have had a lot of help from the Blues in the last few months.

“Their coach and chief executive have really given us some great advice so we are good friends with them as a club. We still want to win the match and I think we can give them a really good game.

“I think at this stage in the season we are just about where we want to be – maybe a point behind our target.

“But we are moving forward and improving and hopefully we can do that against Chelsea on Sunday.”

West Ham Women v Chelsea is at Rush Green on Sunday with a 3pm kick-off. Get down there and give the women the support they deserve.
