Pattison pops up with late winner
Substitute Joe Pattison was the last-gasp matchwinner for Romford against Aveley last night.
With the Ryman League cup tie heading for extra time, Pattison fired high into the net in the last minute to send Boro through at the expense of their landlords.
Paul Martin rested several players ahead of Romford’s FA Trophy tie at Boreham Wood on Saturday.
But, after Josh Llewellyn gave Millers the lead, Alex Read levelled.
Llewellyn put Aveley 2-1 up early in the second half, but Read replied with his seventh goal in five games to square matters again.
And, after Tony Russell was sent off for a second bookable offence, Pattison popped up with his clincher.
Martin said: “We rested a few players and it was a game we didn’t really want, but we have put a side out and nicked it in the end.
“Either side could have won the game. We were concentrating more on the Trophy on Saturday.”
