Duru strike earns draw
Ryman Division 1N
Thamesmead 2 Romford 2
Boro had to settle for a point, once again, after another late goal yesterday.
But rather than being on the receiving end, as they had been against Soham Town on Saturday, it was Paul Martin’s men who struck late to earn a share of the spoils this time.
Things might have been better had Kurt Smith not seen his first-half penalty saved by Sam Nott.
Thamesmead broke the deadlock with a spot-kick of their own from Ricky Cable, just before the hour mark, but Boro hit back soon after when Jack Barry fired a low shot home from the edge of the box.
The home side regained the advantage with 16 minutes remaining when Danny Penny took advantage of some hesitant Boro defending to find the back of the net.
And it looked like being the winner until Chuck Duru cut in from the left during stoppage time and sent a looping shot over Nott.
Romford: Joseph-Johnson, Mackin, Dicks, Ishmail, Clayton, Seymour, J Barry, Duru, W Odedoyin, Smith, Oates (Long 72).
Lowestoft 2 Hornchurch 1
Urchins made the long trip back from the Suffolk coast empty-handed after a third successive Premier Division defeat yesterday.
They were only moments away from claiming a point too, but Lubo Guentchev’s goal deep into injury-time gave the Trawlerboys victory.
The home side took the lead in the 67th minute in route one style when a long kick downfield was headed on for Matt Nolan to send a dipping 25-yard shot into the net.
But Hornchurch got back on level terms 10 minutes later when Aaron Gayle twisted in the box to meet a left-wing cross and glanced his header inside the far post.
Lowestoft had the final day, though, in the fifth and final minute of stoppage time when a free-kick from halfway was only half cleared and the ball was returned into the Hornchurch box and squared by Sam Gaughram for Guentchev to clip home from close range.
