Barry felt Boro deserved last-gasp winner

Romford captain Jack Barry admitted the 2-1 Ryman One North victory over local rivals Redbridge on Wednesday was extra sweet due to them being the side that produced a last-gasp winner.

Ryan Imbert volleyed home in the 10th minute of added time at Ship Lane to seal a dramatic victory for Paul Martin’s men.

And considering the club have let various leads slip themselves in the dying stretches of games this season, the Boro skipper admitted it was particularly nice for them to be the team that scored the late goal.

“It was nice for us to nick it in the dying moments,” said Barry. “It made the victory a bit sweeter. It has happened to us on a few occasions this season and it’s not a nice feeling, I can tell you that!

“I didn’t realise it was actually that late on but there was always going to be a lot of time added on because of the coming together of both teams, which was started by their player not wanting to leave the pitch after he had been sent off.

“I asked the referee how long we had left and he said a minute and literally the next phase we scored.”

Barry felt Romford created enough opportunities throughout to deserve the three points, which moves them up to 16th in the table.

He was also pleased to get the equaliser, especially after missing some decent chances in the first half.

Barry added: “I wasted a couple of headers from a few corners in the first half and I could sense that I was going to get another chance in the second half to put one in the back of the net. Fortunately I did, and it was to put us back on level terms.

“It is always nice getting on the scoresheet when I can and we created enough chances to score throughout the game to deserve the win.

“Everyone had the belief we were going to get the winner right up until the end so it showed a lot of character from the players.”
