Romford couldn’t have started the 2014/15 campaign with a better opening half of football against Burnham Ramblers on Saturday in the Ryman One North but it failed to stop manager Paul Martin giving his side a rollicking at full time.

Boro defeated Burnham 4-0 at the weekend with Ryan Imbert bagging a brace alongside strikes from Paul Clayton and Abs Seymour, the former from the penalty spot.

All four goals came during an entertaining first 45 minutes but the display after the break frustrated Martin as his team wasted numerous opportunities.

He was quick to point that out to his side after the game, the Romford boss said: “Pre-season is always a bit dull so it was nice to be back in action.

“The first half was fantastic but I did give the boys a bit of a rollicking afterwards because of the second.

“We probably created 10 chances after half time and failed to take any, if it is 0-0 then it is a completely different story.

“First half was the best half I have seen us play in a long time but second was dull because the players become individuals and I needed to bring them down a peg.”

Romford’s manager was keen to praise his side’s efforts on achieving three points and for the football displayed at Ship Lane during the opening half, despite his displeasure after the break.

Martin added: “We went out and played some lovely stuff, one and two touch football which we have been working on.

“At the end of the day it is three points so I am happy and it is a good start to the season I just wasn’t happy with the way we played in the second half.”

Romford visit Harlow Town’s Barrows Farm tomorrow evening for their second league match of the season.
