Ryman North: Romford 0 Brentwood Town 5

A 13-minute second half hat-trick from Sherwin Stanley contributed to Romford’s downfall at home to Brentwood Town.

The hosts made five changes to their starting XI following the loss to Cray Wanderers including the promotion of Robbie Norris, Manzi Mbala and Callum Ibe from the bench.

After a tense opening 10 minutes with a few feisty challenges, Town’s Shad Ngandu saw his 25-yard free kick drift just wide of the left post with 11 minutes gone.

In the 26th minute Danny Dafter finally forced Aaron Omand into action in the Boro goal but his 30-yard effort was easily saved.

With five minutes remaining in the half Nathan Cooper handled Jack Gardner’s scuffed shot in the box.

From the resulting penalty Tom Richardson fired into the bottom corner against his former side.

The visitors nearly doubled their lead just two minutes later when Robbie Rees struck from the edge of the box but Omand was well behind it.

Town’s tails were up and just 60 seconds later Richardson had a great chance for his second.

Stanley’s cross found him in the area but Richardson scuffed his effort when it looked easier to score.

Romford started lively after the break and Joe Scott dragged his shot just wide of the left post less than a minute after the restart.

But Brentwood scored their second of the afternoon with 53 minutes gone as a quick counter attack ended with Sherwin Stanley sweeping home from the left of the box.

Less than four minutes later Stanley grabbed his second when he rose highest to nod home Rees’ cross from the right.

Stanley looked set for his hat-trick in the 61st minute when found by Alex Akrofi in the box but his strike was well blocked by Omand.

But the striker was able to notch his third five minutes later when he beat Omand to Andy Freeman’s long ball forward and Stanley fired into an empty net.

Brentwood increased their lead further when Sam Bantick tucked home Akrofi’s low ball from the left with four minutes remaining.

Worringly for Boro the game ended with only one shot on target for the hosts, something which they will be looking to improve upon against landlords Thurrock on Monday.
