Ryman One North: Romford 2 Tilbury 2

Romford let a 2-0 lead slip as they were forced to settle with a share of the spoils against Tilbury at Ship Lane yesterday.

They got off to the perfect start on four minutes when Jack Barry flicked effort from Abs Seymour’s corner was only parried into the path of Clayton by Dockers goalkeeper Chico Ramos and the club’s record appearance holder slotted home.

Clayton almost grabbed his second on 17 minutes when getting on the end of Dave Ottley’s free-kick, with the latter making his 100th appearance for Boro.

But he only had to wait another minute to double his tally when he headed in another dangerous Seymour corner.

Clayton continued to be in the action and he almost made it a first half hat-trick as another header was blocked off the line.

Seymour himself tested Ramos early in the second half, but the Dockers pulled one back on 68 minutes as West profited from a defensive mix-up, and though Aaron Omand saved the initial effort, West slotted home the rebound.

Clayton was in the thick of it and headed a chance to restore their two-goal cushion wide, and Paul Martin’s side were made to pay when West netted again after a defensive error with quarter of an hour remaining.

Reece Tranter’s effort looked destined for the net before Ramos pulled off a fine stop, but Boro had to be thankful to Omand after he produced a great save to deny the Dockers a late winner.

Romford will hope for better luck at home to Redbridge on Wednesday.

Romford: Omand, Ottley, Preston, Toms, Clayton, Barry, Cocklin, Dicks (Ishmail 83), Richardson (Tranter 78), Seymour, Imbert (Reynolds 78).
