Romford captain Michael Finneran has left the club to join local rivals Grays Athletic.

The 23-year-old centre back, has made 20 appearances for the Thurrock-based club this season, but has now decided to move on and help bolster The Blues squad for their late push for a play-off place in the Bostik North.

Finneran played in both of Boro’s victories against Jamie Stuart’s men this season and his last appearance came in Romford’s 6-0 defeat to local rivals Hornchurch at Ship Lane on Wednesday, January 31.

He has previously played for Aveley and Bowers & Pitsea.

A Grays Athletic statement said: “We welcome him to the club and trust that he enjoys his time with us.”

Grays currently sit 11th in the table and are fourteen points off sixth-place Canvey Island.

Romford remain second from bottom and now will be lighter on defensive options with defender Danny Cossington taking over the captain’s armband for the time being.
