Ryman Premier: Harrow 0 Hornchurch 3

In-form George Purcell struck twice to help Hornchurch to only their second win of the Ryman Premier season last night.

Striker Purcell took his tally to five in five games as Jimmy McFarlane’s Urchins bounced back from their 2-0 defeat at Dulwich at the weekend to earn three morale-boosting points in north west London.

And they will now be looking to build on their success when they welcome Hampton & Richmond Borough at Bridge Avenue on Saturday.

McFarlane brought Chris Bourne in for the suspended Junior Luke and saw the visitors get off to a great start after only two minutes.

Bourne found space on the left and crossed for Purcell to slot home his first goal of the night and the forward double his tally midway through the first half with a fine strike.

Harrow keeper Charlie Horlock’s poor clearance was seized upon by Purcell, who sent the ball back with interest from long range to make it 2-0.

Captain Elliot Styles went close to a third when heading over Alex Bentley’s free-kick moments later and Bourne forced a fingertip save from Horlock before half time.

Urchins did not have long to wait to extend their advantage in the second half as Courtney Homans advanced on the right and saw his excellent cross turned into his own net by Harrow defender Michael Peacock.

Sam Mott pulled off a superb penalty save to deny the home side a reply before the hour, before Martin Tuohy sent Frankie Curley’s pass just wide of the target at the other end.

Homans created another chance for Bourne, who fired over, before Mott thwarted Harrow with another excellent save.

And McFarlane made three changes late on as the visitors held on for a much-needed clean sheet and three points.

Hornchurch: Mott, Homans, Starkey, Styles, Beckles, Curley, Bourne (Griffin 83), Bentley, Tuohy (Marshall-Katung 83), Purcell (Joseph 75), Gogo.

*Romford are in Ryman North action tonight as they welcome Cray Wanderers to Ship Lane.
