Urchins need points, Boro chase money
Ryman Premier Division
Met Police v Hornchurch (3pm)
Saturday marks the second annual Non-League Day and clubs up and down the country will be hoping for some extra support with Premier League and Championship clubs out of action due to the international break.
Urchins will miss out on any potential increase in gate revenue due to the fact they must travel to Met Police.
But manager Jimmy McFarlane will be hoping that is all they miss out on this time, after seeing his side fall to three successive defeats.
McFarlane has been pleased with his side’s performances in losses to Canvey, Horsham and Lowestoft, but knows he needs his men to start producing results to back them up.
Urchins took only nine points from their first nine games last season, before embarking on an excellent run through October and November, but McFarlane will not want to wait that long this time around.
FA Cup Preliminary Round
Romford v Royston Town (1.30pm)
Unbeaten in three Ryman Division One North games, Romford focus their attentions on the magic of the FA Cup on Sunday.
Boro enjoyed a good run last season and the £1,500 prize money for this tie would be welcomed in club coffers.
But Martin knows his men face a tricky test against an in-form Royston side, having watched them himself this week.
Joe Bingham has returned to the club to strengthen their central midfield options, but there are injury doubts over Hyun Jin-Lee and Nick Reynolds, who netted twice in Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Soham.
But whoever Martin puts out on the pitch, he will be hoping they ‘turn up’ and approach the game in the right mind-set, or he fears their cup journey could hit the buffers at the first stop.
