Urchins need a lift
Bank Holiday Monday (3pm)
Ryman Premier Division
Lowestoft v Hornchurch
Urchins make the long trip to the Suffolk coast today in desperate need of a lift after suffering successive defeats.
The season started so well for Jimmy McFarlane’s men with a 5-2 win at Cray, but then two mistakes by Darren Behcet handed Canvey a 2-1 midweek victory at Bridge Avenue.
And the Urchins keeper was then forced off with an injury against Horsham on Saturday and stand-in goalie Elliot Styles was beaten twice in the second half.
Lowestoft, meanwhile, came from behind to win 4-1 at Margate, thanks to goals from Michael Frew, Chris Henderson, Lubo Guentchev and Jamie Forshaw.
Thamesmead v Romford
Boro had to settle for a 3-3 draw after conceding a late goal against Soham on Saturday.
Nick Reynolds netted twice and Kurt Smith grabbed his second goal of the campaign to put Paul Martin’s men on course for a second successive victory.
But league newcomers Soham grabbed an 88th-minute equaliser to share the spoils.
A point was more than today’s hosts, Thamesmead, got from their trip to Great Wakering, though.
Rikki Cable put them ahead midway through the first half, but Nikki Beale got Rovers back on terms before the break and Nathan Dewberry clinched a 2-1 win with nine minutes remaining.
