Romford boss hopes to avoid postponement

Romford boss Paul Martin is hoping his side’s clash at Waltham Abbey goes ahead tonight (Tuesday).

Boro moved up to sixth in Ryman Division One North with a last-gasp win over Potters Bar at the weekend and could climb higher this evening.

Lewis Francis cancelled out a Potters Bar penalty with a spot-kick of his own, before Nick Reynolds claimed all three points in injury time at Ship Lane.

But matches have fallen victim to waterlogged pitches in recent days and Martin knows the surface at Capershotts is not the most reliable and faces a 3pm inspection.

He said: “They’re unbeaten in five and are always a strong and lively side.

“But if we go there and nick the points we could be up in second.

“Pitches are getting heavy now, though, and you have to change your tactics, like we did against Redbridge.

“We’ve got to make sure we get our tactics right but if the game is off we could be looking at a two-week break.

“We haven’t got a game on Saturday now (scheduled opponents Brentwood are in FA Trophy action), our reserves didn’t play at the weekend and their next game isn’t until the 17th.

“But I’ve got a fully-fit squad of about 40 at the moment!”
