Pre-season friendly: Hullbridge Sports 0 Hornchurch 5

Hornchurch started their pre-season campaign with a 5-0 win at Essex Senior League side Hullbridge Sports.

Jimmy McFarlane used a mixture of first-team players and trialists at Lower Road and saw a number of his strikers find the net.

Tobi Joseph opened the scoring after 22 minutes, curling into the corner from the edge of the area.

Bradley Warner ensured he wasn’t outdone two minutes later, by dribbling past three players before slotting home Urchins second.

Theo Fairweather-Johnson showed his potential soon after, as he fired in despite having his shirt pulled with 31 minutes player.

Hornchurch had to wait a little while longer before adding a fourth, as Kenzer Lee smashed in after a George Purcell corner was cleared seven minutes into the second half.

And Purcell, Hornchurch’s all-time leading goalscorer, got on the scoresheet after good play by Jamie Hursit in the 67th minute.

Martin Tuohy went close on a couple of occasions towards the end of the match, with the referee failing to spot a handball on the goal line.

But McFarlane could be pleased with Hornchurch’s efforts and they visit Isthmian South outfit VCD Athletic next on Saturday.
