Hornchurch manager Jimmy McFarlane is keen to get a win under their belts and go on a FA Cup run this season.
The Urchins welcome Southern League Premier Division South side Harrow Borough to Bridge Avenue on Saturday for their first qualifying round tie.
McFarlane’s side are keen to progress into the second qualifying round and bag £6,000 in prize money in a bid to help them build momentum for their Bostik Premier Division campaign.
“It will be nice to get a win and build a bit of momentum to take that into the next league game,” he said.
“We’ve got to try get patched up ready for Saturday in the FA Cup which gives us a respite from the league.
“I don’t think we can win it, but it will be nice to have a run, as it’s been a few years since we had a run.”
The boss also feels his side should have enough incentive to nab a victory but if they don’t they should think about the £6,000 in prize money to inspire them.
“The prize has gone up and is nearly double now.
“You shouldn’t need an incentive in football but if you ever need one that’s it.”
He also revealed they sent someone to watch Harrow drew 1-1 with Salisbury last weekend and that they’ll be expecting a tough test.
“We had them watched today (Saturday), how good they are I don’t know, but they’ve won a couple and lost a couple.
“Harrow Borough has always been a difficult game, always, so we just have to see how we go.
“There is nothing wrong here that a win won’t put right and I know that’s simple but they is nothing wrong.”
The former defender also says his side must start winning games after picking up another 1-1 draw last weekend against Carshalton Athletic.
“We need to start picking up wins it’s as simple as that but I’ll learn from today and I’ve learnt something from every game so far because every team has brought something different.”
