Urchins get little rest before Canvey test
Hornchurch entertain Ryman Premier Division rivals Canvey tonight, little more than 48 hours on from their 5-2 win at Cray on Sunday.
Martin Tuohy netted twice in south London for Urchins, but boss Jimmy McFarlane is unhappy with the lack of recovery time is squad will get.
He said: “It’s a bit unfair, having to play Sunday and Tuesday at the start of the season, but we have to deal with it,
“We’ve got a few niggles and will change it around a bit, but we’ll be okay.
“I watched Canvey on Saturday and to be fair, they were unfortunate [losing 2-1 to Carshalton].
“They’re a decent side and it’s a stronger division this year so we need to be on our game.”
Hornchurch had to come from behind to claim the points at Cray, but did so thanks to Tuohy’s double and further goals from Michael Spencer, Tommy Black and Jo Flack.
McFarlane added: “I would’ve taken 0-0 before so I was well pleased.
“I thought we had a very poor first half-hour, we allowed them to settle and never got going ourselves.
“We were fortunate to go in 2-1 up at half-time, but in the second half we looked a good side.”
