Urchins set to host Enfield Town
Hornchurch boss Jimmy McFarlane is hopeful of his side’s Ryman Premier Division clash with Enfield Town going ahead tomorrow night.
Urchins saw Saturday’s scheduled meeting with Canvey postponed due to a waterlogged Bridge Avenue pitch, but after two dry days McFarlane believes tomorrow’s fixture is more than likely to go ahead.
And he is expecting a typically tough encounter against the north London club, saying: “There is a very good chance of it going ahead.
“One of our coaches has been over there today and no pitch inspection is planned, so that must be a good thing.
“I watched them at East Thurrock on Saturday and it will be tough like every other Ryman match. We will not be taking them for granted, that’s for sure.”
McFarlane discussed how a downpour on Friday night put to bed any chance of the Canvey fixture going ahead.
Pitch conditions tomorrow will not be the greatest but McFarlane will not implement a change of style and is targeting a repeat performance of last Tuesday’s Essex Senior Cup quarter-final win over League Two Dagenham & Redbridge.
McFarlane added: “It chucked it down all night Friday, so no way Canvey could have gone ahead, it was completely saturated.
“I didn’t think it was playable on Tuesday but we got that on and we played some good stuff then.
“We haven’t got the personnel to change our style so hopefully it will be similar to last Tuesday’s performance.
“A clean sheet is a must. If we keep clean sheets we are going to win more games than not, so we want to get one tomorrow night.”
McFarlane also revealed that Michael Spencer is doubtful, but has everyone else fit and available for selection.
